I started The Pulpwood Queens of East Texas Book Club in March, 2000 with six strangers. That soon grew to over 150 members shortly after opening my Beauty and the Book, the ONLY Hair Salon/Book Store in the World! Thanks to ABC's television program, Good Morning America, where we were featured kicking off their "READ THIS" Book Club with Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gipson, our book club exploded into literary promoting action. We now have chapters running all across the United States, from Alaska to Florida, to California, to New York, and almost everywhere in-between. We are NOT just a southern book club anymore and certainly not your mother's book club. We have over 400 chapters nationwide with thousands of members, now gone INTERNATIONAL with members and chapters in 10 foreign countries!
We now have the largest "meeting and discussing" book club in the world whose members are "all on the same page" as we all read the books that I personally read and select each month. Go to Book Selections to see the full list!

Our mission is to promote, books, literacy, reading, and great authors, and to help undiscovered authors get discovered in a really big way!

When I started this book club, I threw out all of the rules! My book club was going to be fun, not homework. As I always say since turning the BIG FIVE O, "If it isn't big time fun, then why do it!".
Here is the deal. It is so easy. Do you love to read good books and have always dreamed of being a QUEEN? Well then, gather your girlfriends in a fun place, have an organizational meeting, and become a member of The Pulpwood Queens and Timber Guys Book Club!
Here is all you need to know on how to become a member:
Each member is to pay $25.00 for membership. You all must wear a tiara, as they are MANDATORY! You MUST read the book of the month, how simple is that!
That paid membership now entitles you to LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP! Yes, a one- time payment makes you a Queen, NOT for a Day, but for LIFE!

This book club is open to anyone who loves to read regardless of race, color, religion, whether they have had cosmetic surgery or color-treated hair. You'll soon realize with our sense of play that we do not take ourselves very seriously, we want to have fun, but we are very serious about our books, that is important to know. And YES, this book club is open to men! My husband, Jaybird, has named the male members, TIMBER GUYS, whose motto is "GOT WOOD!". Jay came up with that motto so blame him, hahahahahaha!

Please read the book club selection of the month prior to your meeting. The OFFICIAL Pulpwood Queen Book Club Selections are found on this website under Book Selections. The Head Queen will read the questions and members will respond. Just remember this is all subjective and relative to our own life's experiences, there are no right or wrong answers, (see my book for more on how to run a book club). Each month's featured books will be featured on our Homepage for the entire month with the Book Club Discussion questions that I provide to you so you will have them to read at the meetings.
What makes our book club unique is that we are so respected that most of the authors are more than willing to make teleconference calls to my Pulpwood Queen Chapters, on their own dime! But you must make such requests at least two weeks prior to your book club meeting, through me so that I can set up that teleconference. Special Note: This works only when the author does not have a prior engagement. In addition, when authors are going to be in the area, you will be notified. Sometimes they even make special arrangements to visit your chapters when in your area.

We have annual gatherings each year that will be Author, Book, Literary, and Reading Extravaganzas including:
GIRLFRIEND WEEKEND, our Annual Pulpwood Queen and Timber Guy Convention that we host, always held the third weekend in January right here in historical Jefferson, Texas.
BOOKS ALIVE!, our Christian and Inspirational Author & Music Extravaganza held always the second weekend in November as a total fundraiser at and for The First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, Texas!
THE FRED MCKENZIE STORYTELLING FESTIVAL which will be held the very first time May 2011, details forthcoming!
We sometimes do ROAD TRIPS to author events or book festivals and have even did a Literary Tour of France and Italy with the Pulpwood Queens. We are currently booking a Pulpwood Queen Cruise, June 24 – 27, 2011. These events will be posted on our website, www.beautyandthebook.com.
